Fury of Anubis by Pragmatic Play - Slot Review

Fury of Anubis by Pragmatic Play - Slot Review

After my initial playtest, I was ready to give this game a horrible review. It has all the hallmarks of a crappy slot: difficult to bonus, a 10X Bonus Chance Ante Bet that still never seems to bonus, super spins that drain the balance without giving much back, and a max starting multiplier bonus feature you can only get by gambling your bonus several times with the risk of losing it altogether.

But somehow, even after getting completely demolished, I found myself coming back to the slot. What if I just ignored all the features I hated and played the game my way? Base spins and bonus buys without gambling to upgrade the feature at all. That’s exactly what I did in Part 2 of my video review and well… it was glorious.

Let’s start off with the train wreck that was Part 1 (video link below this paragraph). Gambling the bonus feature was a disaster! You can’t spin into the best bonus, you can’t buy it, you can only get a bonus with the highest minimum multi by successfully gambling twice on the most expensive bonus. And even if you succeed, there is no guarantee that you will come out of that bonus with profit. Do yourself a favor and skip gambling the bonus altogether. The 3 scatter can still do well, the 4 scatter can hit massive.

We did so much better in our second session where we avoided upgrading bonuses. But if you do decide to gamble your bonus to upgrade the minimum multi, I would buy the 6 Scatter and simply gamble it once to get to the 128X Minimum Multi. One other useful tidbit pertaining to the Bonus Feature is that scatter retriggers upgrade your minimum multi as well and give 5 additional spins. So in theory, you could end up with the highest minimum multiplier through multiple retriggers without gambling your bonus.

I found it fun to go do a few spins at different bet sizes searching for a good hit. Even if you don’t land a bonus there’s a chance you’ll win big on a base spin so I’d also recommend avoiding the 10X Bonus chance spins.

Buying Bonuses in this game is how I would attack this game. The random chance Bonus Buy is my favorite, where you pay a slight premium from the 3 scatter cost for a chance to get a 4, 5, or 6 scatter. We had better luck on the 6 scatter from our random chance buy than we did from buying them straight up so I’ll stick to buying bonuses with the random chance scatters.

As far as gameplay goes, it reminds me a lot of an improved Gates of Olympus/Starlight Princess without the frustrating multi bombs that always tease. Instead, the multi progressively gets better with each hit until it reaches the max multiple of 1024X. I will say enjoy the the theming of Gates and Starlight a bit better than Anubis but that’s personal preference. Despite it’s flaws, Fury of Anubis is one of the better new releases by Pragmatic and one that I look forward to continue playing on my stream.

UPDATE: I did an additional test to see how long it would take to spin into the MINIMUM MULTIPLIER of 256X in Fury of Anubis. First I set the spins to 10X Chance of Feature, then each bonus I spun into I gambled until the MINIMUM MULTIPLIER was 256X. It took roughly 6000 spins to gamble into the 256X Multi. Getting to 128X was much easier and ultimately the 256X Multi did not yield more than a 100X of the total bet size so I would classify this as a fail. I still maintain that 128X is the sweet spot if you are gambling for a higher minimum multiplier for your bonus. However, you are better off not gambling the bonuses at all. A side note- The best bonus I was able to spin into was a FREE SPIN 3 with a minimum multiplier of 32X which leaves me to believe that you could spin into a 64X minimum multiplier as well, which is nice. I previously believed that you could only spin into a 3 scatter 8X minimum multiplier.
